Shoumei is the boldest of the white tea styles, made from larger, more mature leaves rather than buds or young tips, giving it a fuller body and a natural earthiness that more delicate white teas do not have. This spring harvest has been aging in compressed mini cake form since 2017, with 9 years of slow transformation building layers of honey, dried fruit, and warm spice. Some tea drinkers find aged Shoumei closer in character to a light oolong than to a fresh white tea.

What is Fuding Shoumei?

Shoumei is the boldest of the white tea styles. Made from the larger, more mature leaves of the Da Bai cultivar rather than buds or young tips, it has a fuller, more robust character with a natural earthiness that more delicate styles like Silver Needle or Bai Mu Dan simply do not have.

This spring harvest has been aging in compressed mini cake form since 2017, giving it 9 years of slow transformation. Compression and time have worked together here to build real depth and body, softening the natural boldness of Shoumei into something round, warm, and complex. Some tea drinkers find aged Shoumei closer in character to a light oolong than to a fresh white tea.

In the cup, expect rich honey, dried fruit, warm spice, and a full, smooth body with a long finish. The mini cake format makes it easy to portion and brew multiple times.

Fuding in Fujian Province is widely considered the birthplace of Chinese white tea, and the region where the style’s defining standards were established. The area has a mild, humid climate with abundant rainfall and frequent mist, conditions that slow the development of the tea leaf and allow its natural flavors to concentrate gradually. Fuding is home to two native cultivars, Da Bai and Da Hao, which have been cultivated here for generations and are the foundation of all authentic Fuding white tea. The best leaves are harvested by hand in early spring, when the buds are at their most tender.
