Bai Mu Dan combines one bud and two young leaves, giving it a fuller body and a richer, more layered flavor than bud-only white teas, while keeping the characteristic gentleness of the style. This cake has been aging since 2018, slowly developing notes of honey, dried fruit, and a subtle woody warmth, with a smooth, long-lasting finish.

What is Fuding Bai Mu Dan?

Most white teas are made from buds only. Bai Mu Dan uses one bud and two young leaves together, which gives it a fuller body and a richer, more layered flavor than styles like Silver Needle, while still keeping the characteristic gentleness of white tea.

This particular version is pressed into a cake and has been aging since 2018. Compression is not just a format choice: it slows oxidation and allows the tea to develop gradually over years, in the same way aged puerh does. There is even an old Fuding saying, “one year tea, three years medicine, seven years treasure,” and this harvest is crossing exactly that threshold.

In the cup, the years of aging are immediately noticeable. The fresh floral notes of a young white tea have given way to something deeper: honey, dried fruit, and a subtle woody warmth, with a smooth, full mouthfeel and a long, sweet finish. No bitterness, no astringency.

Well-suited for gongfu brewing, with multiple steeps that continue to evolve.

Fuding in Fujian Province is widely considered the birthplace of Chinese white tea, and the region where the style’s defining standards were established. The area has a mild, humid climate with abundant rainfall and frequent mist, conditions that slow the development of the tea leaf and allow its natural flavors to concentrate gradually. Fuding is home to two native cultivars, Da Bai and Da Hao, which have been cultivated here for generations and are the foundation of all authentic Fuding white tea. The best leaves are harvested by hand in early spring, when the buds are at their most tender.
