Banpo Village on Nannuo Mountain is one of the most celebrated tea locations in Yunnan, home to ancient trees around 300 years old, growing undisturbed on the southern slope of the mountain at 1,636 meters. The village is known among puerh connoisseurs for producing the most fragrant teas on the entire mountain, a reputation earned over centuries of continuous cultivation by the Pingtian Aini people.
This red tea is made from the same ancient tree material, processed through full oxidation rather than puerh production. The trees grow slowly in dense forest alongside towering ancient trees, their roots reaching deep into mineral-rich soil without any fertilization or management. The result is a raw material with a depth and complexity that plantation-grown leaves simply cannot match.
In the cup, the fragrant character that Banpo is famous for carries through into the red tea: a bright, aromatic brew with notes of honey, ripe peach, and a floral warmth that lingers. Smooth and full-bodied, with a long, sweet finish.

The village is home to 27 households of the Pingtian Aini ethnic group, one of Yunnan's indigenous peoples with a centuries-long tradition of tea cultivation. Despite its relatively small size, Banpo is consistently recognized as one of the most prized tea villages on Nannuo Mountain, known for ancient trees around 300 years old that grow alongside towering forest trees with minimal outside disturbance. The area features flowing streams and rich biodiversity, creating a natural environment that requires no fertilization or management of the tea trees.
